SEAI grants, explained simply

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland pays real money towards solar panels and home EV chargers. Here's exactly what's available in 2026, who qualifies, and how not to lose it.

Solar Electricity Grant — up to €1,800

€700 per kWp for the first 2kWp and €200 per kWp up to 4kWp, capped at €1,800 — confirmed unchanged for 2026. Homes built and occupied before 2021 qualify, with no means test. Combined with 0% VAT, it takes thousands off a typical installation.

Three rules that protect every SEAI grant

  1. Never start work before your Letter of Offer

This is the single most common way people lose grants. Work started before SEAI approval is permanently ineligible — no exceptions, no appeals.

  2. Use registered installers only

SEAI-registered companies for solar; Safe Electric registered electricians for chargers. Unregistered work voids the grant entirely.

  3. One grant per property

Grants are tracked by your MPRN (on your electricity bill). If a previous owner claimed at your address, that measure can't be claimed again there.

Grants are only step one
